Natural wonder
In Gabon, Central Africa
Pointe Denis in pictures.
Pointe Denis is a long, undeveloped peninsula of powdery sand and clear water facing the Gabon Estuary, a favourite weekend escape from Libreville. Its shores are a major nesting site for leatherback turtles, with thousands of nests laid each season, and humpback whales can be spotted offshore in season. With mangroves and forest at its back, it feels like a world apart despite its closeness to the capital.
