Natural wonder
In Gabon, Central Africa
Crystal Mountains in pictures.
The Crystal Mountains, or Monts de Cristal, rise in steep, forest-cloaked ridges near the equator in northwestern Gabon. Protected as a national park, they shelter one of Central Africa's richest concentrations of orchids, begonias and other plant life, alongside lowland gorillas, forest elephants and rare birds. Cloaked in near-constant mist, the range is a paradise for botanists and eco-travellers seeking pristine wilderness.
