Rwenzori Mountains in pictures.
The Rwenzori range, long known as the Mountains of the Moon, rises to Margherita Peak at 5,109 metres, the third-highest summit in Africa and one of the few in the tropics to carry permanent glaciers. Its slopes pass through surreal vegetation zones of giant lobelias, groundsels and heather draped in moss. Multi-day treks reward serious hikers with glacial lakes and snow-capped peaks on the equator.
