Founded in 1659, Saint-Louis was the capital of French West Africa and remains a UNESCO World Heritage city, its island core lined with colonial townhouses, narrow streets, and the long Faidherbe Bridge spanning the Senegal River. The atmospheric town blends Creole, French, and Wolof culture and hosts a celebrated annual jazz festival. It is also the gateway to nearby bird sanctuaries.
