Natural wonder

Lac Rose (Lake Retba) in pictures.
Northeast of Dakar lies Lac Rose, a shallow lagoon whose waters glow a striking strawberry pink thanks to salt-loving algae, most vivid under the dry-season sun. Separated from the Atlantic by a ribbon of dunes, the lake is ringed by mountains of harvested salt and dotted with the wooden boats of local workers. It once marked the finish line of the legendary Dakar Rally.
