Natural wonder
In Ethiopia, East Africa
Lake Tana and the Blue Nile Falls in pictures.
Lake Tana is the source of the Blue Nile and Ethiopia's largest body of water, scattered with island and peninsula monasteries that have safeguarded ancient manuscripts and frescoes for centuries. A short journey downstream, the Blue Nile plunges over the Tis Issat falls, known locally as the smoking water for the mist rising from its drop. Together they form one of the highlands' most rewarding stops for history and nature alike.
