Blyde River Canyon

Located along Mpumalanga’s spectacular Panorama Route, the Blyde River Canyon is a geological marvel and one of South Africa's most breathtaking natural wonders. Unlike the arid canyons typically found in the Americas, this is a 'green canyon,' draped in lush subtropical foliage that clings to its towering sandstone cliffs. The canyon drops 750 meters down to the Blyde River below, creating a landscape of staggering scale and emerald beauty. Highlights include the Three Rondavels, three massive spirals of rock that resemble traditional African homesteads, and Bourke's Luck Potholes, where swirling water has carved deep cylindrical holes into the riverbed over millennia. At 'God’s Window,' the escarpment falls away to reveal views that stretch across the Lowveld toward Mozambique on clear days.
