Natural wonder
In Namibia, Southern Africa
Sossusvlei in pictures.
Deep within the Namib-Naukluft, Sossusvlei is a vast clay-and-salt pan ringed by some of the tallest sand dunes on Earth, glowing deep red at sunrise. The neighbouring Deadvlei holds the haunting black skeletons of camel-thorn trees, frozen against a white pan floor and orange dunes. Climbing dunes such as Big Daddy and Dune 45 is a highlight of any Namibian itinerary.
