Natural wonder
In Namibia, Southern Africa
Sesriem Canyon in pictures.
At the entrance to the Sossusvlei dunes within Namib-Naukluft National Park, the Tsauchab River has cut Sesriem Canyon a kilometre-long slot through layers of compacted gravel. Its shaded, sculpted walls plunge up to thirty metres and occasionally hold pools of water. The canyon is an easy and striking stop on the route to the great red dunes.
