Source of the Nile in pictures.
High in the hills near Rutovu in southern Burundi stands a stone pyramid marking what is claimed to be the southernmost source of the Nile, a spring first identified by German explorer Burkhart Waldecker in 1937. From this modest highland stream, water begins the longest journey of any Nile tributary toward the Mediterranean thousands of kilometers away. The site offers sweeping views over Burundi's southern landscape.
