Livingstone-Stanley Monument in pictures.
About 12 kilometers south of Bujumbura at Mugere, an engraved boulder overlooking Lake Tanganyika marks where explorers David Livingstone and Henry Morton Stanley camped on 25 to 27 November 1871. Though the famous meeting itself actually occurred days earlier at Ujiji in present-day Tanzania, the monument remains a popular historic stop. The hilltop site offers panoramic views over the lake.
