Rising starkly from the Kalahari sands in Botswana's northwest, the Tsodilo Hills shelter one of the densest concentrations of rock art in the world, with thousands of paintings spanning millennia. Sacred to the San and Hambukushu peoples, the quartzite hills are a UNESCO World Heritage Site often called the Louvre of the Desert. Their silence and spiritual weight make them unlike anywhere else in the country.
