- When to go
- May to September (Dry Season) is the best time for safaris as vegetation thins and animals congregate at waterholes. December to March (Summer) is ideal for Cape Town and the coast, offering sunny, warm weather perfect for beaches and outdoor exploration.
- Visa and entry
- US and most EU citizens (except Poland and Cyprus) are visa-exempt for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days. Passports must be valid for at least 30 days after the intended date of departure and must contain at least two blank visa pages. For stays longer than 90 days, a formal visa application is required through a South African diplomatic mission.
- Health
- Recommended vaccinations include Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Polio, MMR, and Tdap. A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory if you are arriving from or have transited through a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly advised for travelers visiting the Kruger National Park and other low-lying areas in the Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and KwaZulu-Natal provinces.
