- When to go
- The best time for gorilla trekking is during the long dry season from June to September, when the weather is stable and trails are easiest to navigate. The short dry season from December to February is also an excellent time to visit. The rainy seasons (March-May and October-November) offer lush landscapes and are ideal for birdwatching and avoiding crowds.
- Visa and entry
- US and EU citizens can obtain a 30-day tourist visa upon arrival at Kigali International Airport or any land border. The single-entry visa costs $50, while a multiple-entry visa is $70. The East Africa Tourist Visa ($100) is also available for those visiting Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya. Passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
- Health
- A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required if arriving from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission. Routine vaccines such as Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Tetanus are highly recommended. Malaria is present throughout the country, so travelers should take prescription prophylaxis and use insect repellent.
