- When to go
- June to October (Peak Season) is the best for wildlife viewing in Etosha, as animals congregate at waterholes. April and May offer clear skies and lush landscapes with fewer crowds. December to March is the low season, characterized by high temperatures and occasional summer rains, making it ideal for birdwatching.
- Visa and entry
- Effective April 1, 2025, Namibia is revoking visa-free entry for citizens of the US and most EU countries. Travelers from these nations must now obtain a visa via the Namibia E-Services portal or as a Visa on Arrival at major ports of entry (Windhoek and Walvis Bay). The cost is approximately N$1,600 (approx. US$88). Passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the departure date and contain at least 3 blank pages.
- Health
- Recommended vaccinations include Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Polio. Ensure routine shots like MMR and Tetanus are up to date. A Yellow Fever certificate is required if you are arriving from a country with a risk of transmission. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended for the northern regions, including Etosha and the Zambezi Region, particularly during the rainy season from November to April.
- Currency
- Namibian Dollar (NAD), pegged 1:1 to the South African Rand (ZAR). Both are widely accepted.
